Cuban Americans for Engagement wishes to express our most fervent condemnation of the continued inclusion of Cuba on the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism issued by the U.S. State Department. It is an embarrassment for the United States and a discredit to its foreign policy to utilize this valid instrument for such small-minded means.
The Obama administration demonstrates weakness and a lack of political direction by including Cuba on said list. The justification for including Cuba seems more of an argument for the nation to be taken off the list. The United States loses credibility by designating Cuba to the same list that is purportedly used for counter-terrorism for the sake of pernicious political aims.
The inclusion of Cuba on the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism limits the possibilities of a more open policy with the island nation that in no way poses as a terrorist threat to the lives of Americans. CAFE condemns this disgraceful attitude of the current administration and calls for the removal of the Republic of Cuba from a list to which it does not pertain.
