Cuban Americans for Engagement supports and is grateful for the gestures between both the governments of Cuba and the United States that have facilitated the beginning of a new era in relations between the two nations. We applaud both administrations for the liberation of the American prisoners in Cuba and the three incarcerated Cubans in the United States. This is a dawn of a transformative era for both countries.
We also want to offer our wholehearted support for the measures announced by president Obama about moving towards the normalization of relations between the two nations. CAFE welcomes an opening of an American embassy in Havana, the exclusion of Cuba from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, the possibility of more US citizens traveling to the island through the streamlining of licenses to one general license, and a lessening of restrictions on remittances sent to the island as important steps towards sowing a new dynamic between both countries. Cuba and the United States must find a common ground for collaboration and we believe that these measures point towards a better direction in relations.
CAFE urges both presidents Barack Obama and Raul Castro to continue this path of negotiations that will benefit both the people of Cuba and the United States.
