A New Voice in the Cuban-American Community

For many years, voices in the Cuban-American community have called for greater engagement between the United States and Cuba and changes in the U.S. policy of isolation. From a variety of political perspectives, Cuban-Americans—including veterans of the Bay of Pigs; people who were part of the wave that left from Mariel; recent emigrés; children of the exile generation; Democrats; Republicans; and independents—have called for a new approach to Cuba. These calls have reflected the changing sentiment in the Cuban-American community. Joining this diverse chorus is Cuban Americans for Engagement, whose initial press statement is below.
